🌟 John Wright
Scottish shipwright John Wright helped establish the working settlement of Tuncurry during the 1870s. His enterprise included milling, a store and shipbuilding, connecting the district’s timber resources with coastal transport. Other workers and their families formed part of the growing community beside Wallis Lake. His name survives at John Wright Park, while local monuments record the wider group involved in the settlement. The twin towns’ later holiday identity rests partly on this earlier economy of sawmills, boats and the people who built them.
